In Rydberg atoms the valance electron is excited to a very high principal quantum number. The interaction between a slow Rydberg electron and a ground state atom can be described by a Fermi pseudopotential. The attractive scattering potential can lead to a formation of ultralong-range Rydberg molecules. We will report on the creation of S-state and D-state molecules in an ultracold cloud of Rb atoms and hybridization of the Rydberg electron orbital due to molecule formation. Excitation of Rydberg atoms in a BEC can induce collective oscillations of this quantum object, which will also be covered in the talk.
