BEGIN:VCALENDAR VERSION:2.0 BEGIN:VEVENT SUMMARY:Quantum information processing with atoms coupled to waveguides and cavitie DESCRIPTION:I will discuss different ways in which one can exploit the coupling of atoms (or other light emitters) to optical waveguides or cavities for quantum information processing. At first sight the direct coupling of different atoms through e.g. cavities is not very promising since it will have a poor scaling with the system parameters, but I will discuss a number of techniques that allows circumventing these problems and achieve a more favourable performance. Specifically, I will show that molecules in waveguides can be used to create a communication interface for superconducting qubits. Furthermore I will present a method to create an essentially error free heralded quantum gate between atoms in optical cavities. Finally, if time allows, I will present a method to make gates between photons using Rydberg blockade in optical cavities.
