The Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences was founded in 2003 with locations in Innsbruck and Vienna. Since then, both research entities have developed into independent institutes with complementary scientific focuses in quantum sciences. In Innsbruck, research topics range from the foundations of quantum physics to their applications, for example for metrology, sensor technology and quantum information processing. IQOQI Vienna conducts theoretical and experimental research on the foundations of quantum physics, quantum information and space-time physics, and explores new possibilities of their application for quantum technologies. Together, both institutes make a significant contribution to quantum research in Austria, are very well connected internationally, and specifically promote young scientists.
