Superconducting Quantum Circuits
Group of Gerhard Kirchmair

Applications from highly motivated and enthusiastic students/researchers with an excellent academic/scientific record are welcome. Ph.D. applicants should have completed a Master's thesis in physics, preferably in superconducting circuits, quantum optics, atomic physics, or a related field. Post-doc applicants should have a well-established record of scientific research and strong leadership skills. Women are particularly encouraged to apply.

For Ph.D. and Master Students we offer education in

  • Superconductivity & superconducting circuits
  • Micro & Nano fabrication in a cleanroom
  • Microwave engineering
  • Quantum-optics, Quantum-simulation and Quantum-information
  • Low-temperature physics
  • Presentation of scientific results in peer reviewed journals and conferences
  • Computer based experiment control and data manipulation

We expect

  • Enjoy doing experimental research
  • Basic knowledge of Quantum Physics
  • willingness to work hard in the lab
  • Teamwork

PhD and Master projects

  • Design the hardware and software for the experimental control
  • HFSS simulation of microwave structures
  • Fabrication of superconducting devices
  • Design and test of superconducting circuits
  • Set up of cleanroom facilities for fabricating superconducting devices
  • Design of magnetic field coils for a fast magnetic field switching
