Past week, the Institute of Quantum Optics and Quantum Information in Innsbruck celebrated its 20th anniversary. Many leading minds in quantum physics came to Innsbruck to celebrate this anniversary together with Innsbruck's physicists. Experimental physicist Uroš Delić was awarded one of the prestigious START prizes in Vienna today, the highest Austrian award for young scientists. He will carry out his project on interacting quantum systems, endowed with around 1.2 million euros, as a junior group leader at the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI) in Innsbruck.

Next week Hannes Pichler will be awarded the Ignaz L. Lieben Prize in Vienna for his groundbreaking work in the field of quantum many-body physics and quantum information science. This oldest research prize of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) is endowed with 36,000 US dollars.

The interactive online platform atominnen.at, established by Francesca Ferlaino together with colleagues at IQOQI Innsbruck, wants to strengthen the role of women in science and research. The new support network was presented yesterday at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna in the run-up to World Quantum Day and in the presence of Women's Affairs Minister Susanne Raab.

The theoretical physicist Sofiene Jerbi of Hans Briegel’s research group at the Department for Theoretical Physics at the University of Innsbruck has been awarded the IQOQI Dissertation Prize 2023. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the prize. Endowed with 1,000 euros, it is awarded as a recognition of young researchers for their outstanding scientific achievements in the field of quantum physics.
