This week, Jay Gambetta, Director of IBM Research, visited IQOQI Innsbruck and the University of Innsbruck. Gambetta, a physicist, is one of the world's leading experts in the field of quantum information and quantum computing.

Jay Gambetta's visit to Innsbruck on Monday provided a rare opportunity for direct exchange on current developments and future prospects in quantum research. During his stay, he met with researchers from the University of Innsbruck and IQOQI Innsbruck to discuss joint research approaches, technological challenges, and new opportunities for cooperation. In a lecture, he provided insights into the latest advances in IBM's quantum strategy and the vision of a scalable, universal quantum computer.

Jay Gambetta holds a PhD in physics from Griffith University in Australia and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and IEEE. During his time at IBM, he played a key role in developing IBM's cloud-based quantum computing platform , which now has hundreds of thousands of users. Under his leadership, the open-source software toolkit Qiskit and the commercial quantum computer series “IBM Quantum System One” and “Two” were created.

The visit underlines the international importance of Innsbruck quantum physics and strengthens the relationship between the Austrian quantum research community and leading industrial partners such as IBM.
