Loss Tolerance in Topological Quantum Error Correcting Codes

Seminar

Speaker: Tom Stace
When: Jun. 18 2015 15:00
Where: IQOQI lecture hall

Quantum error correction is one of the keys to building a quantum computer, and has profound implications for quantum physics. I will review topological quantum error correcting codes, which were inspired by early lattice gauge theories, and are some of the most promising candidates for future quantum processors. I will also describe some of my work which shows that these codes are also exceptionally robust against both computational and loss errors.
