Today in Boulder, USA, the quantum physicist Peter Zoller is awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Colorado in recognition of his pioneering work in physics and his enduring association with CU Boulder. Zoller was Professor at the University of Colorado for four years and Fellow at JILA before being appointed to the University of Innsbruck.
Peter Zoller is a theoretical physicist and one of the most influential scientists in the field of quantum optics and quantum information. With his work, he has linked quantum optics with other fields of physics and thus laid the foundations for new quantum technologies. His pioneering work today drives the development of quantum simulators, quantum computers and quantum networks. Peter Zoller has received numerous awards, including the Wolf Prize (2013), the Benjamin Franklin Medal (2010) and the Max Planck Medal (2005). In 2012 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Amsterdam.
Peter Zoller is Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Innsbruck and Scientific Director at the Institute of Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
