in the IQOQI research group “Dipolar Quantum gases” led by Prof. Francesca Ferlaino.

Your tasks:

  • Work on an experiment with ultracold dipolar quantum gases and mixtures including regular maintenance, planning and implementing upgrades and extensions, performing measurements
  • Analysis of experimental results and writing scientific publications
  • Tutor bachelor and master students
  • Representing the group on conferences and workshops via poster presentations and talks
  • Supporting the group in administrative tasks

Your profile:

  • Master's degree in physics
  • Practical experience with experimental techniques used in cold atom and quantum gas experiments, especially laser and optical setups, vacuum technology, electronics
  • Experimental know-how on cooling and trapping ultracold atoms and quantum-gas microscopy
  • Experience in data analysis and theoretical modelling of physical systems
  • Knowledge of the theoretical description of quantum systems in general and many-body systems in the context of ultracold dipolar quantum gases in specific
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills
  • Ability to work in a team and to present scientific results to the community
  • Fullfillment of the official requirements for PhD students of the University of Innsbruck

Your tasks:

  • Developing an overall strategy with the goal to significantly strengthen and support gender equality and gender inclusivity at the institute
  • Further development and maintenance of the interactive digital platform atom*innen, a website with specified functionalities to inform, support, empower and connect female physicists
  • Planning and implementing services and measures such as mentoring and training activities, establishing a central contact point for national and international partners, and organizing as well as developing other actions to promote and strengthen gender inclusivity in cooperation with partners from science and business
  • Supporting and fostering measures and international actions within the quantum physics community
  • Target group-specific communication addressing people from research, business, public administration and the general population alike, as well as press work and management of the social media channels based on a dissemination strategy
  • Coordinating editorial processes for calls for proposals in gender-mainstreaming related action, annual reports and newsletters
  • Representing the IQOQI gender office in committees and events

Your profile:

  • Successfully completed master’s degree, preferably with a focus on STEM fields, and experience or training in the fields of gender equality and diversity
  • Experience in data analysis and data presentation
  • Experience and/or interest in press work, public relations and science communication
  • Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English. Knowledge of German is an asset.
  • Proactive mindset, responsible, friendly collaborator and team player as well as able to work independently, self-organisation skills, good time-management
