Quantum physicist Hannes Pichler was awarded the Antonio Feltrinelli Giovani Prize in Physics on June 12 in Rome. The 50,000-euro award, presented by the Italian Academy of Sciences, honors researchers under the age of 40 who have achieved exceptional and internationally recognized success in their field.

Klemens Hammerer delivered his inaugural lecture at the University of Innsbruck on Tuesday evening. The theoretical physicist, who has been leading a research group at IQOQI Innsbruck since 2025, presented his research program at the interface of quantum optics, quantum information, and precision measurement.

Peter Zoller, professor emeritus at the University of Innsbruck and scientific director emeritus at the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS). The Royal Society is the national academy of sciences of the United Kingdom and the oldest scientific society in the world.

On Friday, the Tyrolean provincial government awarded Francesca Ferlaino the Tyrolean Order of the Eagle in Gold. This award is presented to individuals who share a close bond with Tyrol and who, through their dedication, have contributed to the province’s development in their own way.

Theoretical physicist Torsten Zache joined IQOQI Innsbruck as junior group leader at the beginning of the year. Zache is also an assistant professor at the Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of Innsbruck. He received an ERC Starting Grant for his research on quantum simulations of lattice gauge theories.
